RHINOPLASTY

This surgery is indicated for patients seeking improvement in the aesthetic appearance of the nose. The aim is to make the nose more harmonious with the patient's face, taking into account the nasal features that bother them most. Procedures to improve nasal breathing are performed during the same surgical procedure if the patient also presents functional complaints, such as chronic nasal obstruction.

Who can undergo rhinoplasty?

Patients who wish to change the aesthetics (shape, size, contour) of their nose, whether or not they have functional complaints, such as chronic nasal

obstruction.

What do I need to do to be ready for surgery?

In addition to the evaluation by an otolaryngologist, tests such as blood tests, chest x-ray, and electrocardiogram are necessary, depending on the patient's age. These tests should be taken to the general practitioner or cardiologist for surgical risk assessment.

How will my breathing be after surgery?

Rhinoseptoplasty aims not only to improve aesthetics but also function. Therefore, techniques are used not only to improve appearance but also

nasal breathing. Patients with septal deviation or chronic rhinosinusitis requiring surgery undergo correction during the same surgical procedure.

What is the hospitalization process like for the procedure?

The patient will be hospitalized for approximately 12 hours if general anesthesia is used. They must fast for about 8 hours before the procedure

begins.

What type of anesthesia is used for rhinoseptoplasty?

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia. In exceptional cases, where only simpler techniques are required, it can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation.

What is the post-operative period like after rhinoplasty?

In the postoperative period, the nose will be congested for about 7 to 14 days, with two silicone plates inside, and breathing will be predominantly oral. An external dressing will also remain. The dressings are removed by the surgeon about 7 days after surgery. Nasal edema and bruising ("redness") under the eyes may occur. Despite this, complaints of pain are quite uncommon.

How long does postoperative recovery take?

Post-operative recovery takes approximately 7 to 14 days, depending on the patient's clinical status and the perioperative period. After this period, the patient will be reassessed for clearance to resume daily activities.

What precautions should a patient take after rhinoseptoplasty surgery?

In the postoperative period, attention should be paid to the rest period recommended by the surgeon. Medications, such as analgesics and antibiotics, will be prescribed and directed according to the technique and findings of the surgery. The patient should constantly wash their nose with saline solution to prevent the accumulation of crusts and secretions. Sun exposure should be avoided for a minimum of 1 month. Return to physical activity may be possible in about 15 days, provided it does not involve a significant risk of impact (such as combat sports).

Will there be external scars after rhinoseptoplasty?

If scars are necessary, they are small and become very discreet over time, sometimes imperceptible.

How long will it take to see the final results of my rhinoplasty?

The nose begins to take shape in approximately 1 month. Before that, the healing process is still occurring and there is still swelling. The final aesthetic result is practically achieved after about 3-6 months, and the result is considered complete within a year.
